The Delivery
Pretty cool having a horse trailer come and drop off my horse. I just wish all the neighbors weren’t at work…I might have had a bit of a crowd gather to see what was going on. The horse came and was delivered quietly into my Dining Room without any fanfare or notice, he even fit through the door! It was time for me to start Horse ing Around.
Now I just had to prep the space with thick plastic to avoid any lasting memories on the carpet…however, there might be yet a couple of spots on the walls still.
Getting Started – putting paint on a blank canvas…
It can often be the hardest part of starting a painting….that first brush stroke. You just have to take a deep breath, and start. You pray that you’ve chosen the right colour, and hope that you won’t just make a mess of the whole thing.
Progress so Far
As I painted, I decided I loved the smooth finish on the horse. I loved the way my paint worked with the surface, it blended so perfectly. I worked from darker shades under the horse to swirling colours of blue, purple, and yellow. Water effects worked well to give beautiful drips and emotion. The dark colours start to change as you move up the horse to the face which is well lit with a soft whitish yellow. At this point I stared adding some of my white lines that create paths up the body.
Almost Done
Time for dots, and more dots. These little bits are not sprayed on…no way! Each dot is placed carefully in the exact space they need to be. I start off with the bigger dots and work back in with various sizes of dots. Just when I think I have enough, I need to add a few more. So hours of dotting go by…man it’s a big canvas!
My Horse Story
It’s a wrap! This 4 minute video will go over the progression of the painting as well as give me a chance to talk about my inspiration and motivation behind the design. Freedom’s Journey is his name, enjoy his story.
After Freedom’s Journey left my house I was excited about how well he turned out. I missed the swirls and colours that I had growing in my Dining Room…so I created a painting in tribute to my horse.
