Been working hard…..lots of new pieces for lots of shows coming up in October 2017!!
What I did in August!!!
It has been a very busy summer for me as I worked on a secret project for the entire month of August. Well, it wasn’t really a secret, but I was not allowed to release any pictures of the special piano I was painting for Honens.
I was one of five artists selected to paint a public piano. Mine will be available for public playing at Arts Commons. I was so excited to be selected for this project, and spent many hours travelling to my piano weekly to transform it into a recognizable Biko painting.
Upon completion, I named her Clementine. She was revealed on Stephen’s Avenue on a glorious sunny day with the other four pianos. A very special musician chose to play my piano, John Kimura Parker pounded out a spectacular Jazz piece by Oscar Peterson. I couldn’t have been more proud and emotional about Clementine.
To view the entire process and hear what John played, you can visit my facebook page.

Also in August I hosted my first fundraiser through Artistic Entities. Six other artists joined me to showcase our work, and have a fun evening out with music, food, art, and friends.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event, and helped sponsor us. We raised $1,455.00 for Cornerstone Youth Centre. The event was such a success, I will plan on doing it again!
Well I guess you can see why the summer ran away from me. Lots of projects on the go. I just returned home from my annual retreat where I paint up a storm. So my days are full of finishing work, framing, and preparing for this new season of shows.
I’ve given you a peek at October, and there will be more shows in November (Some of that work I still have to start!!)
I hope you can join me at some of the shows, and partake in some of the crazy fun things I have coming up! You are always welcome to drop me a line…oh, and if you have a charity or event where you would like me to paint live, or do a special project for, I am always open to that.
I can’t wait to show you what else is coming up…..soooo excited! Oh, and you can also find me on Instagram…just look up Karen Biko….I’ve been doing draws for some of my hand-painted cards!
