July has brought to me another step in my life. I turned 50, and with that I expect changes to come to many aspects of my life, as each decade seems to do. My Artistry is fully embraced, and it consumes much of my time.
I see myself bit by bit simplifying my life, and letting go of things that do not serve my creative purpose. Unfortunately there is also an increase in the time, energy, and endless collection of the creative. This is more seen in the slow spread of my studio space taking over much of the house. My family is always supportive of me, and tolerates it with a smile and understanding (and occasionally a shake of their heads…).
Reaching out through social media for approval and validation, it comes in with drifts and spurts, but all in all it is moving in a positive direction. I love how visual it is, and feel that I am on the verge of something new, something exciting just waiting around the corner.
Urban Jungle
Acrylic on Canvas 12″ x 36″ – Framed
$450.00
This is the first of a series of Graffiti inspired work that I have been developing. I have enjoyed the use of a new medium (spray paints!!). I was given an opportunity to meet with KidBelo, who welcomed me into his studio and witness how he works. He is a great source of inspiration for me, and although I am not a Graffiti Artist, I do hope that I’ve taken the inspiration into my own direction that still says Biko.
Parting Thought
My realization this month is that although I do get inspired by many things around me, I cannot wait for that inspiration to hit. I work at creative ideas always, even when inspiration is not to be found.
